Capitol Hill Residence

Shifting Spaces

The Story:

The construction of a new carriage house dramatically reduced the outdoor area available for gardening and recreation. Our Client’s eclectic tastes in the interior moved us to work with asymmetry and sharp juxtapositions in the design. The irregular jointing pattern of the bluestone helps ease the strong geometry of the rectangular courtyard and varies the edges of the site to allow plants to billow out into the main patio. Subtle uplighting creates drama and highlights the two beloved Camellias we transplanted.
